A delegation from the Exim Bank of China, on a five-day working visit to Sierra Leone, paid a courtesy call on Minister of Finance Ahmed Fantamadi Bangura at his George Street office in Freetown on Friday, 11th July 2025.

The delegation includes Mr. Wang Hongjie and Mr. Li Wantong (both Country Officers of the Sovereign Business Department, Exim Bank of China).
In his statement, Wang Hongjie informed the Minister and senior management at the Ministry of Finance that the main objective of the mission is to explore future financing demand and potential cooperation opportunities, examine the current economy and debt situation, and review fiscal and monetary policy in Sierra Leone, while also assessing the status of ongoing projects funded by the Bank.

During the meeting, the Exim Bank of China Mission discussed with the Honourable Minister of Finance and Management the resources for loan models, government revenue from the mining industry, and other key macroeconomic indicators in recent times.

Minister of Finance Ahmed Sheku Fantamadi Bangura welcomed the delegation, stating that the Exim Bank of China is a very active partner to the Government of Sierra Leone with a growing portfolio in the digital space.

He informed them of the recent Joint Venture agreement with a Chinese firm to invest in mining by unlocking the minerals with infrastructure such as energy, roads, and rails to enhance the value of the minerals.

Several ideas and models were discussed for the intervention of the Exim Bank of China that both the Bank and the Government are exploring for future investment. The delegation is expected to meet with other Ministries, Departments, and Agencies implementing projects funded by the Bank.
