Positives reactions are greetings for the current Executive Director of the Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority (SLRSA), Mr. James Baggie Bio following his successful first 100 days in office today since he was appointed by President Julius Maada Bio early this year.

During this short time in office, the SLRSA Executive Director, James Baggie Bio has taken the bold steps to take the office to the people to match his words with actions which have apparently led to the expected service delivery.

According to several stakeholders in the road sector, the appointment of James Baggie Bio as Executive Director of SLRSA by President Julius Maada Bio is a laudable venture to promoting road safety across the country.

They said he has made name for himself having diligently and dedicatedly served as Deputy Executive Director under ex-Executive Directors, Ibrahim Sannoh and Reverend Smart Senessie. “James Bio is a household name when it comes to successful and positive results for that important institution,” they added.

With vast years of experience in the sector, James Bio has the capacity and knowledge to improve and implement best practices in the road safety sector.

In several occasions, Mr. Bio has emphasized to give a thorough look into his staff’s welfare and conditions of service, instilling discipline into road safety corps to ensure progress, and revenue mobilization and to sustain the gains made during and after his 100 days in office.

Days after he assumed office, the SLRSA E.D, James Baggie Bio commenced work to achieve his visions and plans for the institution first, by refurbishing the infrastructure and providing the authority with additional facilities for effective and efficient service delivery.

As evidence, the Authority has celebrated the successful commissioning of its Highway Management Unit at Mile 91. Personnel from the SLRSA have already been deployed at the new facility, signaling improved highway oversight and quicker response to incidents along Masiaka/Bo Highway.
Meanwhile, the Authority has lately expressed concern over what it described as a growing habit among some motorists who drive without using official vehicle identification plates.

In order to raise consciousness on the issue, the Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority (SLRSA) has issued stern warning to vehicle owners and drivers who operate their vehicles without properly affixing license and registration number plates.

According to SLRSA, this act is not only unlawful but also undermines the work of law enforcement and road safety officials.
During his one hundred days in office as Executive Director, Mr. James Baggie Bio has also met with several stakeholders in the sector including the management of Leone Rock Metal Group to seek support for essential logistical needs to strengthen the Authority’s efforts.

Furthermore, the Director has also revamped the long dormant National Road Safety Committee and reinforced the use of a Passenger Manifest System across the country’s transport sector, making it part of a comprehensive strategy to address the increasing number of road traffic incidents and to ensure a safer travel experience for commuters.

According to the SLRSA ED the reintroduction of the passenger manifest system is significant in ensuring accountability and safety and also a key tool for identifying passengers and responding during emergencies.
Inside the one hundred days, James Baggie Bio leadership has also moved to strengthen public engagement and response with the launch of a toll-free line 844 available on Africell mobile network which is now operational 24/7. Personnel have already been deployed to manage the line to ensure that public concerns and queries are addressed promptly.

Another significant achievement is the revamping of the MOT vehicle testing system which is part of the Executive Director’s 100-day accomplishments in office.
This renewed momentum from the SLRSA Executive Director has been widely welcomed as a crucial step in addressing persistent road safety challenges in the country.

Also, under the leadership of James Bio, the SLRSA has held a National Dialogue Platform meeting at its headquarters, focusing on implementing the National Communiqué.

James Bio’s leadership at SLRSA has also introduced series of new operational directives and public engagement initiatives aimed at bolstering road safety and improving service delivery across the country, with a key focus on ensuring that all vehicles are equipped with a first aid kit.

According to SLRSA, the directive aligned with Regulation 55 (6) of the Road Traffic Regulation 2011, mandates that all vehicles operating in Sierra Leone must now carry essential safety equipment, including a First Aid Kit. In addition to this mandatory safety equipment, the James Bio leadership at SLRSA has also introduced a Mobile Work Station to enhance service delivery by bringing the Authority directly to communities.

This initiative aims to improve efficiency and accessibility for the public in addressing road safety concerns. This was expressed by several stakeholders in the road safety sector.

Constructive contributions were made by representatives from the Bike Riders Union, Keke Riders Union, ITOA, among others.
