105 MW Gas Turbine Generation Plant At Kissy… U.S., EU Ambassadors Meet KKY

General Manager of Nant Power Project,Abu Kamara,has led the U.S.A. Ambassador to Sierra Leone,Bryan Hunt,and officials from the Development Finance Corporation,DFC,on a visit to Energy Sector Lead,Dr. Kandeh Yumkella.

Abu Kamara said they had made the visit to the Sector Lead because they wanted to assure the government of the commitment of DFC to implementing the 105MW gas turbine generation plant at Kissy,Eastern Freetown.

He told Dr. Yumkella and the Deputy Minister of Energy l,Ing.Edmond Nonie,that the DFC,as senior lenders,were doing all they could to ensure the realization of the project.

“The support has been absolutely tremendous from the Ministry and DFC. We are therefore optimistically looking forward to having the first in-country power by early 2027,” he assured.

Responding,Dr. Yumkella thanked the U.S.A. Ambassador and officials of DFC for the support the corporation was providing to the country,noting that the DFC was implementing projects worth billions of United States dollars in Sierra Leone.

He catalogued the Nant Project,the airport and the fibre optic as areas where DFC had or is investing in the country.

“We are committed to moving fast in establishing a transparent collection… and to strategically and consciously reforming EDSA,” he concluded.

In another development,the European Union Ambassador to Sierra Leone, Jacek Jankowski, held fruitful discussions with the Energy Sector Lead with respect to parliamentary and cabinet regulations regarding mini grids and to prepare for the launch of mini grids by His Excellency President Julius Maada Bio.

Dr. Yumkella thanked the Ambassador and conveyed the gratitude of President Bio to the EU.

With the energy sector and the Feed Salone agenda being inextricably linked,reforms continue in the sector.
