Clarification on False Claims Regarding IMF Suspension and Pavifort Freetown, Sierra Leone — 27 May 2025:

The attention of Pavifort has been drawn to online claims suggesting that Sierra Leone has been suspended from all International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank programs due to a $67 million payment made to local contractor Mr. Alimu Barrie, owner of Pavifort.

No such payment was ever made. These claims are factually incorrect, misleading, and lack any basis in official documentation or financial procedure. To date, no statement has been issued by either the IMF or the World Bank confirming any suspension of Sierra Leone from ongoing programs linked to Pavifort or otherwise.

Both the Government of Sierra Leone and IMF are guided by rigorous standards of transparency, formal communication, and institutional process, none of which support the current narrative being circulated. The statements also unfairly target Pavifort, a pan-African infrastructure company with a strong operational footprint across Sierra Leone, The Gambia, Guinea, Liberia, Nigeria, Senegal, and São Tomé and Príncipe.

The Company’s CEO, Alimu Sanu Barrie, said: “Pavifort has consistently delivered on critical infrastructure projects, including roads, ports, and municipal works, all in alignment with national procurement frameworks and international engineering standards. We have a reputation and track record that have earned us recognition across the continent.

” “Allegations that government payments to Pavifort were made for non-existent projects are unsubstantiated and disregard the multi-phase nature of infrastructure development, which involves contract-based milestones, independent verification, and routine oversight. Large-scale payments to contractors of this nature typically undergo extensive review and are aligned with legally binding agreements.” Attempts to politicize legitimate development financing and misrepresent relationships with reputable firms undermine public confidence and investor trust.

Such misinformation only serves to distract from meaningful public accountability and economic progress. The public and media are strongly encouraged to seek verified, official information from relevant institutions and avoid sharing speculative content that can damage Sierra Leone’s credibility on the global stage.
