Says SLRSA Boss

The Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority (SLRSA) is actively cracking down on illegal street garages and roadside obstructions in Freetown.
The said operation was launched recently by the Executive Director, James Baggie Bio to instill discipline and curtail lawlessness in the country’s road sector. This operation, which began in May 2025, aims to improve road safety and traffic flow by removing unauthorized garages and vehicles from public spaces. The SLRSA is collaborating with the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) and other stakeholders to enforce regulations and ensure compliance.
The SLRSA, Executive Director, James Baggie Bio “Operation Restore Absolute Sanity” is focused on clearing areas like the Central Business District (CBD) and Model Junction, where illegal garages and abandoned vehicles have caused congestion and safety hazards. The operation involves removing vehicles, motorcycles, and other obstructions from roads and sidewalks, as well as dismantling illegal structures.
Executive Director, James Baggie Bio also emphasized that this crackdown is not intended to hinder livelihoods but rather to promote a safer and more organized environment for all road users. The Authority has conducted public awareness campaigns and urged vehicle owners and mechanics to relocate their operations to designated garage zones. The SLRSA plans to extend the crackdown to other parts of Freetown and eventually nationwide, with a focus on areas where street garages are most prevalent.
