…On Peer To Peer Learning Meeting

The Environmental Protection Agency of Liberia this week begun the hosting of a visiting delegation comprising nine persons from the Environment Protection Agency of Sierra Leone and the UNDP Sierra Leone on a peer-to-peer learning exchange

The visit, aimed at knowledge exchange between the two countries will run from Monday, June 30 to Thursday, July 3, 2025

The Siarra Leonean team Monday began its mission with a courtesy visit on the UNDP Liberia country office and later met with the Environmental Protection Agency of Liberia Senior Management team

At the EPA Liberia office on Mamba Point in Monrovia, the team was received by the Acting Executive Director of the EPA, Hon. Dweh S. Boley, Sr. and members of EPA Liberia Senior Management staff who gave a warm welcome to their counterparts

The primary objective of the Peer-to-Peer learning visit is to get first hand understanding of Liberia’s Climate Resilience interventions with particular focus on coastal resilience and Environmental management systems

The Environment Protection Agency of Sierra Leone is currently working closely with the UNDP Sierra Leone country office to design a proposal for coastal interventions in Freetown, Siarra Leone which should be submitted through the Green Climate Fund which therefore, provides the team an opportunity to learn from Liberia about ongoing interventions the country is carrying out in line with Climate adaptation interventions preferably in coastal landscapes

The Government of Liberia is as well implementing three Climate adaptation intervention projects including the Monrovia Metropolitan Climate Resilience Project (MMCRP) funded by the Green Climate Fund, the Sinoe Coastal Project funded by the Global Environment Facility and the Climate Information Systems Project funded by the African Development Bank

The three Project teams are sharing their experiences on project implementation cycle of their respective projects including project duration, project overview, co-financing mechanisms, lessons learned and challenges among others with their Sierra Leonean counterparts

The foreign partners visit will also include a couple of field trips to the township of West Point, where the Monrovia Metropolitan Climate Resilience Project intervention is ongoing, Topoe Village as well as Mount Coffee Hydro Plant

The Peer-to-Peer learning and regional collaboration between the EPA Liberia and EPA Sierra Leone is expected to continue and its aim to promote and strengthen environmental systems, processes as well as enhance effective ways that both countries can find practical solutions to common transboundary interventions.
