Following the leave of the Clerk of Parliament, Hon. Paran Umar Tarawally the Rt. Hon. Speaker Segepoh Solomon Thomas has on Thursday, 03/07/2025, announced in the Well of Parliament to Members of Parliament that the Deputy Clerk of Parliament, Gilbert Bosco N’habay, is now the Acting Clerk of Parliament until further notice.
In a letter dated 1st of June 2025, the Rt. Hon. Speaker Segepoh Solomon Thomas informed the Opposition Leader, Hon. Abdul Kargbo, that the President had directed the Clerk of Parliament to go on leave effective 20th June 2025.
In another development, the House of Parliament on Thursday 03/07/2025 passed into law with some amendments, the Bill entitled ‘The Child Rights Act of 2024’.
The Bill seeks to repeal and replace the Child Rights Act, 2007 (Act No. 7 of 2007), to make provision for the promotion of the rights and responsibilities of children and the obligation of the state to provide for such rights as outlined in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child and the African Charter on the Rights and Welfare of Children and to provide for other related matters.
