2028 Isn’t Just Another Election Year

…But A Turning Point For A New Sierra Leone

  • Dr Ibrahim Bangura

The opposing All Peoples Congress (APC) party is preparing to hold its national delegates’ convention and internal lower level elections across the country. And President Julius Maada Bio will be stepping down in 2028 after concluding his two term in office.
At this moment, some of the prospective aspirants for the APC party 2028 presidential ticket are crisscrossing the country with campaign massages to sell out their ideas, dreams and vision for the country.
In light of this, one of the leading flag bearer aspirants, Dr. Ibrahim Bangura has in some of his latest public engagements stated that the year 2028 is not just going to be another election year, but it’s going to be turning point for a new Sierra Leone.
He made this remarks in London recently during his maiden international public engagement in England.
During the London meeting, the APC presidential flagbearer hopeful noted that: “We need a new generation of leadership, one that listens before it leads, acts before it speaks, and serves before it celebrates.”
He told a good number of APC members and supporters in the United Kingdom that: “My message to every Sierra Leonean is that you deserve better. You deserve results. You deserve a president who will not forget you after the vote.” Dr Ibrahim Bangura also used the event to acknowledge the support of other aspirants in strengthening the APC party’s position.
He insisted that he is a respecter of the party structure and that he is aware that there is an existing leadership with a clear structure.
He also emphasized that aspirants should support the party with their ideas to respond strongly to national issues and when it does take a position, they should all rally behind that party.
He noted that, “running as a flag bearer aspirant does not make me the Chairman of the APC, nor does it equate me to being the Secretary General of the party.
My responsibility is to support and strengthen the existing structures of the party, not to overshadow or replace them.
When every flag bearer aspirant begins issuing personal press statements on matters of concern, it creates the impression that our party is divided, disorganized and weak.
Instead, let us, as aspirants, channel our ideas and energy into reinforcing the party’s leadership and its structures.
This will help the APC present a more united, thoughtful, and effective front on all issues.”
Dr. Ibrahim Bangura also continues his remarks by noting that “I Am not aspiring to chase shadows, fighting losing battles, revenge or retribution. I am here to heal, unite and build our broken and ethnically divided nation and put it on the map. I am here not to live a lavish life style, but to build our democratic institutions and channel our resources in the right way to lift Sierra Leone from the bottom of the Human Development Index.”
Today, Sierra Leone stands at a crossroads. Our youth are crying for jobs. Our farmers are working hard but earning little. Our women are leading families but lacking support and our systems are riddled with inefficiency, corruption, and missed opportunities.
“I stand before you not just as a candidate, but as your servant leader. I Am Dr. Ibrahim Bangura and I’m aspiring to be president of the Republic of Sierra Leone under the proud banner of the All People’s Congress party.”
He continued his remarks that “I was not born into privilege. I was raised by parents who taught me the value of honesty, hard work, and education. Through sacrifice and perseverance, I became a doctor not of medicine or research but of service. For over two decades, I have worked in public policy, community development, and nation-building. I have seen what works, and seen what fails our people.”
Furthermore, Dr. Ibrahim Bangura promises to secure APC votes and drive transformation in Sierra Leone through his Heal, Unite, Build mantra which is more than a slogan, but a map out of the nation’s darkness. He noted, “I must heal the broken systems. Unite a party that must lead a people and build a nation worthy of its name.”
As things stand now in the APC, most of the focus should be on an individual who has not been part of the problems, but part of the solutions of the country.
Dr. Ibrahim Bangura is a character who is patriotic and has come with a clean pair of hands. He also understands the party because he is home-based and has stayed close to its triumphs and trials. He comes from a generation that has seen the worst of his party and his country’s instabilities, but he has been able to thrive and serve as a beacon of hope to so many, youths and elders alike.
In addition to his work in the party, Dr. Bangura brings valuable international experience. He has worked with respected institutions such as ECOWAS, the African Union, the United Nations, and the European Union. His work has focused on peace building, governance, and justice sector reform. These roles have placed him at the center of important policy conversations across the West African region.
Most of the attendees at the London meeting showered praises on Dr. Bangura for his good plans for the country and the APC party as a whole.
