Judiciary of Sierra Leone Communications, Law Courts Building, Siaka Stevens Street Freetown, 17th July, 2025: In his commitment to enhancing access to efficient justice delivery in remote areas across the country, the Honourable Chief Justice, His Lordship Komba Kamanda, has secured six motorcycles from the Chinese Ambassador to Sierra Leone, His Excellency Wang Qing.

Making a statement at the handing over ceremony, the Ambassador congratulated the Hon. Chief Justice Komba Kamanda on his recent appointment as Chairman of the Judicial Council of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
He said he hoped this help will increase capacity building in the Judiciary and that the same will be used to access justice in remote places in Sierra Leone. He added that the donation is the result of several meetings held focusing on capacity building and the resolve of the Chief Justice and his administration to increase access to justice.

He reaffirmed his commitment to continue working with the judiciary in all developmental programs.
In response, Chief Justice Komba Kamanda expressed his profound gratitude to Ambassador Wang Qing and the People’s Republic of China, through its Embassy in Sierra Leone, for their continued support to the Judiciary.
He noted that the motorcycles will be deployed to Bailiffs to facilitate the service of legal documents in hard-to-reach areas, thereby accelerating the delivery of justice.

“Under my leadership, the Judiciary has expanded more than ever before with our presence now felt in places where there were no Magistrates before now,” he said, adding that the cycles are meant for the Bailiffs department for process serving and other essential judicial activities in difficult and hard-to-reach terrains of the country.
“Access to Justice is one of my key priority reforms in the Judiciary and having these cycles ensure expeditious justice in areas where they will be used,” he stressed.

Recounting the process leading to this, the Chief Justice said several meetings were held with the Chinese Ambassador and many developmental issues were discussed including motorcycles and buses for staff among others.

Receiving the documents and keys for the six motorcycles, the Chief Justice expressed optimism that the longstanding bilateral ties between Sierra Leone and the Government of China would continue to be beneficial to both countries.
