A Tribute To Ibrahim Karim Sei : A Life Of Excellence In Journalism

By M B Jalloh

I am saddened by the sudden demise of an esteemed elder brother, colleague and Veteran Journalist, Ibrahim Karim Sei, who passed away at the Jui Hospital last evening.

His departure has left an unfillable void in our professional and personal lives. As a distinguished journalist, Mr. Sei’s remarkable career was marked by his unwavering commitment to excellence, integrity and compassion. His leadership roles in various capacities; including National Secretary-General of the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ), Editor of Standard Times Newspaper, Managing Editor of African Standard and Consultant to the Sierra Leone News Agency, earned him respect and admiration from peers and colleagues alike.

I have personal memories of joining SLAJ during his tenure as Secretary-General about 23 years ago. His guidance and support played a significant role in shaping my professional journey.

In a heartwarming display of collegiality, just 72 hours before his passing, Ibrahim Karim Sei extended warm congratulations and penned a glowing tribute to some of his junior colleagues, Edward Marrah, Theophilus Gbenda and others on the Sierra Leone Veteran Journalists forum, celebrating their victory in the recent SLAJ elections.

During this difficult time, our thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved family. May Allah subhanahu wa taa’lah grant them the fortitude to bear the loss of their beloved father, husband and uncle.

May Allah forgive Mr. Sei’s mistakes and grant him the highest rank in Paradise, Aljanatul Firdous Ala’ala. Aameen.

As we bid farewell to this remarkable individual, we take comfort in the enduring legacy of compassion, empathy and goodness he leaves behind. May his contributions to journalism continue to inspire and guide future generations. Aameen.
