By Yusufu Abu Sesay

In a powerful display of unity, faith, and devotion, the Jamaatul Al-Raheem Muslim Jamaat Sorietown, Imam, Sheikh Mohamed Awalu on Friday morning 6th June, 2025 led this year’s Eid-ul-Adha prayers hosted by Western Muslim Community (WMC) held at Sierra Leone Football Association Practicing Field, Kingtom in Freetown.

Hundreds of worshippers gathered in their finest Islamic attire to commemorate the holy day, which marks Prophet Ibrahim’s unwavering obedience and sacrifice to Allah.

The Imam, in his inspiring sermon, called on the congregation to reflect on the true meaning of Eid-ul-Adha — sacrifice, submission to Allah’s will, and compassion towards one another. He emphasized the importance of peace, and the need for Muslims to live as shining examples of Islamic values in their homes and offices

He further admonished the congregation of the negative impact of corruption to the nation in its various forms: financial, administrative and moral corruption.

Sheikh Awalu said corruption cannot thrive in a nation that believes in Allah, fears accountability, and knows that every deed, small or great is recorded and that every soul is held responsible for what it earns.

The learned sheikh cited a verse in the Holy Quran (Az- Zalzalah:7-8) which Allah said ” Whoever does an atom’s weight of good will see it, and whoever does an atom’s weight of evil will see it”.

” O Muslims, let us raise our children on honesty and integrity. Let us hold ourselves accountable before we are held to account. Let us reform our societies and institutions by eliminating corruption from them. For the one who remains silent about corruption is a mute devil, and the one who participates in it is a criminal against his religion and nation” Sheikh Awalu averred.

After the prayers, the Imam, accompanied by members of his Jamaat oversaw the symbolic animal sacrifice, a central ritual of Eid.
