In a forward thinking and prompt message, which has created huge attention across all political spectrums, the All People’s Congress (APC) flagbearer hopeful, Dr Ibrahim Bangura has called for unity within the APC saying that the “APC na wan”.
In one of his statements in the country, Dr Bangura reiterated that internal divisions could derail the party’s chances of effectively addressing Sierra Leone’s pressing challenges.
As an international public policy expert and respected voice within the APC, he recently made a statement that “United We Stand: A Call for Unity Within the All People’s Congress (APC).” His message comes at a time when tensions among various aspirants within the party are beginning to surface, risking public disillusionment and internal fragmentation.
He said, “Our great APC has weathered many storms throughout its history,” adding that, “It has always emerged stronger through unity, dialogue, and a common sense of purpose. Today, however, we are faced with a growing wave of internal tension that threatens the very core of our party.”
He urged his fellow aspirants and party members to rise above personal ambitions and remain focused on the party’s broader mission, to provide credible, inclusive leadership capable of addressing Sierra Leone’s socio-economic challenges.
Acknowledging the importance of democratic competition, Dr Bangura emphasized that it must be rooted in mutual respect, not rivalry. He said, “Competition should never breed enmity. The people are watching. Our supporters are waiting. Sierra Leone deserves a cohesive, visionary, and disciplined opposition ready to lead with integrity and purpose.”
Dr Bangura’s stance marks a vital move from the previous combative rhetoric associated with internal party politics. He has positioned himself as a peace builder, appealing for calm, constructive dialogue, and collective responsibility.
As a peace loving politician, Dr Bangura in all of his engagement with APC supporters has been making it abundantly clear that all the intending flagbearer aspirants are his brothers and sisters and therefore respects each and every one of them.
He has been condemning the use of abusive languages on any other member of the APC and has also been warning his supporters that whosoever tries to use derogatory languages against any of his fellow contestants, he will be left with no option but to disassociate himself from that individual.
Dr Bangura’s statements throughout his public engagements have resonated with the APC grassroots who are seeking a leader capable of reconciling the party’s internal differences while remaining responsive to the people’s needs.
He has publicly offered policy-oriented responses to national events such as the Yenga border situation, the fire at State House, and national holidays like the International Women’s Day and Mother’s Day, each time focusing on solutions and long-term strategies.
Political pundits believe that Dr Bangura has placed himself as a unifying figure, someone capable of changing internal factions and steering the APC towards renewal and relevance.
