Great leaders, according to history, who had the mind of their people’s welfare, always put the interests of their people first. Before such leaders aspire to rule among their people, there would first be a clear indication about their preparedness for leadership that would be wholeheartedly embraced by the mindset of the people. Certainly, when they come to power, they definitely deliver. This is because they must have known the absolute needs of the people before coming to power.
Drawing a reference to the incoming Dr Ibrahim Bangura to take the leadership of Sierra Leone, there have been indications of timely strategic approaches he is implementing that have obviously caught the minds of the people. One striking proof is his launching of a nationwide monkeypox awareness campaign. When perhaps others are waiting for a windfall from foreign donors or a financial dolling from the government of the day, he has already gone forth with moves to combat the ugly trend of the disease. O what a wise man.
According to what history has taught us as pertaining to the mishaps in fighting disease outbreaks in our country, a late response in combating disease outbreaks is what has caused the too much ravaging of the people. We have learnt from the Ebola and COVID-19 pandemics how untimely responses cost us regret. Today, if we sense another disease outbreak in the name of monkeypox, we should timely do our best to curtail its consequences.
Now seeing Dr Ibrahim Bangura on the course to tackle the ravaging disease, we are expecting others to follow suit. He has shown leadership charisma that his heartbeat is for the health of his people. We are calling on others to emulate his good example or complement his road path of a wise leader.
