EPA-SL Conclude Two Days Retreat

The Environment Protection Agency-SierraLeone (EPA-SL) has concluded a two-day expert review of the National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (NBSAP) to ensure that targets align with the monitoring system and objectives of the Global Biodiversity Framework in Bo District.
Relevant Ministries, Departments and Agencies, the media, civil society organisations, research institutions, non-governmental organisations involved in conservation efforts, and stakeholders from local communities attended the technical working session.
The participants reviewed the draft #NBSAP framework, providing a platform for information exchange, project development and implementation, and innovative conservation practices that are common and sustainable in national efforts.
The key areas under consideration were the biodiversity finance framework (Biofin), monitoring system, conservation initiatives, data gaps, resources, and policy frameworks.
The review also underscored the importance of stakeholder cooperation and collaboration in addressing the problems and potential barriers in #NBSAP implementation through cooperative projects, research activities, monitoring, and capacity-building programs once validated.
The #NBSAP is a national document that will implement the Convention on Biological Diversity’s (CBD) objectives. It demonstrates our country’s decision to manage ecosystems, species, and genetic resources in a sustainable manner that provides equal benefits.
Once validated, it will serve as the working document for our conservation activities, aligning with global priorities for biodiversity conservation and sustainable use.
