Parliament recently debated and passed into law, with some amendments, the Bill entitled: ‘The National Early Warning and Response Mechanism Centre Act 2025’ for the development of the country.
Speaking to journalists shortly after the passing of the Bill into law, the Executive Director of National Early Warning and Response Mechanism, Mrs. Francess Nyuma said the Bill seeks to establish a National Early Warning and Response Mechanism Centre, which shall be responsible for providing early warning on issues relating to human security and peace in Sierra Leone.
According to her, the centre would also improve early warning and strengthen technical management to ensure effectiveness in the early warning system. She affirmed that the enactment would benefit the government and people of Sierra Leone through the establishment of legal frameworks and will mitigate crisis situation for the people of this country. She furthered that the creation of early Warning Centre is good to ensure potential disasters are handled before getting to a point of escalation.
She furthered that Early Warning Mechanism Centre is important because it would provide early warning on issues that have inimical effect on the state and citizens.
Madam Nyuma said if institutions adhere to some of the warnings provided by National Early Warning Centre, most of the challenges faced as a nation would have been averted referencing M-Pox and other disasters.
Madam Nyuma also frowns at the endless indiscriminate disposal of waste across Freetown, underscoring that no investor would like to come to a country where people dispose waste all over the place.
