“I’M Impressed With Your Reforms In Just 200 Days”

-Chinese Ambassador Tells Chief Justice Komba Kamanda

The Chinese Ambassador to Sierra Leone, His Excellency Wang Qing, has disclosed that he is very impressed with the ongoing reforms pioneered by His Lordship Honourable Justice Komba Kamanda.

He said, “I’m impressed with your reforms in just 200 days of your leadership as the Honourable Chief Justice of this country.”

Highlighting some of the reforms, Ambassador Qing said the Bailiffs Department had been restructured, stressing that no execution shall be carried out by the Undersheriff’s Office without the approval of the Supervisory Judges.

“The Honourable Chief Justice, thank you for this,” the Chinese Ambassador said.

As part of the ongoing reforms, the Honourable Chief Justice has expanded access to justice for remote communities through the employment of more Magistrates and Judges. The High Court sittings in Pujehun District had been revived after two years without High Court sitting. The Honourable Chief Justice Komba Kamanda had reviewed the implementation of Adoption Order by preventing Court Registrars from signing approved Court Adoption Order. Now, after the Order has been granted and perfected, the said Order will be signed by the Master and Registrar.

His Lordship the Honourable Chief Justice thanked the Chinese Ambassador on behalf of the Judges, Management and staff for trying to strengthen ties with the Judiciary.

He said the 55 years relationship between Sierra Leone and China has been mutually beneficial with landmark infrastructural support such as the National Stadium and healthcare facilities.

As an institution, he said, “Our core mandate is to administer justice fairly and without favour. We should be able to address the needs of our people.” However, he admitted that the challenges are serious and huge, but there is an urgent need to address them despite the fact that justice everywhere in the world is expensive. He implored the Chinese Ambassador to extend a supporting hand to the Judiciary to be able to fully achieve its mandates.

Statements were made by all the Honourable justices of the superior Court of Judicature that formed part of the Honourable Chief Justice’s delegation.
