“I’M innocent,” these were the exact words of the President of Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA), Thomas Daddy Brima who was recently incarcerated for allegedcorruption by the Anti- Corruption Commission (ACC).
The confidently looking SLFA President also urged investigators at the ACC to do their utmost best in proving their claims in a transparent and professional manner.
Writing on his social media platforms shortly after he was released on bail at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) recently, Thomas Daddy Brima noted that as a President who believes in fostering the development of football, he is sure that there is nothing to hide in the cupboard, adding that his four years term as SLFA President have been about making the game a beautiful one for all. The SLFA President also emphasized that his tenure has been committed to improving the football landscape in Sierra Leone, with a strong focus on transparency, inclusion and development.
Furthermore, Thomas Daddy Brima noted that justice must be done and Football must develop in Sierra Leone.
It could be recalled that the SLFA President was arrested on Thursday along with two other officials over alleged corruption related issues and were detained at the CID in Freetown, where they spent the night.
In another update, violence erupted earlier on Saturday during the SLFA Ordinary Congress. Sources close to The Exclusive indicated that the violence was a result of several disagreements between the two camps over the delegates’ list which identified the individuals qualified to vote for the President of the SLFA.
During the clashes, the Personal Assistant (PA) to the President of the Sierra Leone Football Association, David Turner revealed that drivers of Brima’s close contender for the SLFA presidency, Babadi Kamara attacked him during the SLFA Ordinary Congress at the Radisson Blu Hotel, Aberdeen in Freetown.
He added that both accused drivers ferried thugs to the Congress, who, he alleged, peppered-sprayed him.
Turner also revealed that he was deliberately targeted by members of Babadi’s camp due to his support for the incumbent, Thomas Daddy Brima.
