The Chief Administrator of Makeni City Council, Mr. Daniel Kpukumu has reportedly obstructed the work of the Parliamentary Oversight Committee on Transparency, chaired by Hon. Ambrose MaadaLebby, the Committee has described his actions as a direct affront to the authority and mandate of Parliament.
The committee has also noted that he has violated section 95 of the 1991 Constitution by impeding the work of Parliament.
During a scheduled oversight visit, the Committee arrived at the Makeni City Council office only to discover that Mr. Kpukumu was absent. According to committee members, he has failed to show up for the hearings.
The oversight committee, which is currently conducting inspections under the Local Governance Act of 2022 as amended to ensure transparency and accountability, has ordered Mr. Kpukumu to appear before them at the Bombali District Council Hall, Failure to do so may result to his arrest.
The committee remains firm in its commitment to upholding the principles of Transparency, accountability, and good governance, and also holding public officials accountable as per law.
