Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change has concluded its One Day Stakeholder Consultation in Kenema District on the formulation of a Climate Legislation for Sierra Leone.
The Consultation was held in Kono, Kailahun and Kenema District respectivly. The stakeholder consultation was witnessed by Paramount Chiefs, Council Chairpersons, MDAs representatives, Security Sector, Civil Society Organizations, the Physically Challenged amongst others.
The consultation which is supported by UNDP is to inform community stakeholders on government’s decision to develop a law on climate change with key objective to solicit their inputs to develop the legislation.

This would be achievable through a presentation by the National Consultant, indicating public participation, compliance and enforcement, mitigation targets and sector responsibilities, adaptation measures and targets, policy and legal coherence, and carbon market and credit mechanisms to formulate the said document.
The Director of Environmental Emmergencies, Lahai Samba Keita explained the purpose of the consultation by acknowledging the Ministry’s commitment to develop a climate Act which is in alignment with the key mandates of the Ministry.
The consultation was climaxed by group work and presentation session.
