NASSIT Organises Seminar For Legal Practitioners

The National Social Security and Insurance Trust (NASSIT), in collaboration with the Sierra Leone Bar Association, organised a one-day seminar for legal practitioners at the Freetown International Conference Centre, Aberdeen. The seminar, which took place on Tuesday, July 29th, 2025, brought together key stakeholders, including the Solicitor General, Robert Kowa, and Justice Michael P. Mami.
In his statement, the NASSIT Director General, Mohamed Fuaad Daboh, opined that the seminar’s objective, among others, was to interface with legal luminaries and take them through the processes involved in registration and contributions as voluntary members. “I implore you all to join NASSITโ€, he affirmed.


Mr. Daboh explained that the seminar was a testament to the Trustโ€™s collaboration with not only the Judiciary of Sierra Leone, but also with its various facets, including legal practitioners, adding, “We are confident we will be able to collaborate with a clear understanding of our various roles and responsibilities in enhancing the NASSIT Scheme and supporting the Trustโ€. He ended his statement with the presentation of a Social Security Card to President of the Sierra Leone Bah Association for onward delivery to Alfred Kamanda,Esq, a Legal Practitioner who registered with the Scheme during the occasion.

Delivery the Keynote address, The Solicitor General, Robert Kowa, who represented the Attorney General and Minister ofJustice, stated that legal practitioners, while offering critical services to society, were not immuned to the vulnerability of life after active service, adding that the legal profession demanded energy, intellect and dedication often at the expense of personal financial planning unlike their counterparts in public service or corporate employment.
“Private practitioners do not have the benefits of automatic pension enrollment,” he stated.


He therefore urged all the members of the Bar Association, particularly those in private practice, to seize the opportunity and engage actively with NASSIT.

In her statement, the President of the Sierra Leone Bar Association, Madam Tuma Adama Jabbi, said that the initiative to have a seminar for the Bar Association was borne out of true conviction to build a welfare haven for the legal practitioners in private practice, stating, “It was part of our policy initiative to address some of the pressing issues in the Bar.”
She further said she took over the mantle of leadership with the deep conviction that the welfare of her members, especially those in the private practice, deserved urgent and strategic attention.

The Bar Association President called on all legal practitioners in private practice to seize the opportunity and enrol with NASSIT to secure their tomorrow. “I look forward to a day when no member of the Bar, after a life of service, is left uncertain about what lies ahead. This Executive is acting today on
behalf of our tomorrow”, the President concluded.

Representing the Judiciary, Justice Michael P. Mami; a justice of the Social Security and Industrial Court Division of the High Court conveyed thanks on behalf of the Chief Justice, and gave a brief overview of the Scheme, while exhorting legal practitioners to treat the NASSIT Scheme with the seriousness it deserves.

Participants were allowed to ask questions and make comments, which climaxed the occasion.
