Commissioner General of the National Revenue Authority Mrs Jeneba Kpaka Bangura has been appointed as a member of the Committee of Experts on International Cooperation in Tax Matters. Known for her hard work, diligence and professionalism, the country’s Commissioner General endeared the trust and confidence by the global body to be selected amongst thousands of eminent personlities to form the 25 man global tax body. The selection was announced last week by the United Nations and Mrs Jeneba Kpaka Bangura is among a a distinguished group of 25 tax experts from around the world to serve as members of the United Nations Committee of Experts on International Cooperation in Tax Matters.
The United Nations Tax Committee guides countries’ efforts to advance stronger and more forward-looking tax policies adapted to the realities of globalized trade and investment, an increasingly digitalized economy and worsening environmental degradation. It assists countries in their efforts to prevent double or multiple taxation, as well as non-taxation, broaden their tax base, strengthen their tax administrations, and curb international tax evasion and avoidance.
The United Nations Tax Committee fosters international cooperation on domestic and international tax matters. It works closely with observers from government, civil society, business and academia, to develop guidance and encourage an inclusive setting of norms and policies.
The Committee membership brings together tax practitioners with expertise in a wide range of areas, such as double tax treaties, transfer pricing, avoiding and resolving tax disputes, taxation of the extractive industries, taxation of the digital economy, environmental taxation, and value-added taxes.
About Mrs. Jeneba Kpaka Bangura
Mrs Jeneba Kpaka Bangura is a highly accomplished and results-driven leader with extensive experience in senior management roles, a proven track record of excellence in financial management, tax administration, and public sector leadership. She is currently Sierra Leone’s Commissioner General after she had served as Deputy Commissioner General, National Revenue Authority (NRA) between 2018 and 2023, and later in 2023 was appointed Deputy Minister of Finance.
