PARLIAMENT APPROVES MS. JENNEH JABATI AS DEPUTY MINISTER OF FINANCE II

The Parliament of Sierra Leone unanimously approved Madam Jenneh Jabati as the newly appointed Deputy Minister of Finance II, following a robust and supportive debate among Members of Parliament (MPs).

During the parliamentary proceedings, the Deputy Opposition Leader of the All People’s Congress (APC), Hon. Aruna Aaron Koroma of Tonkolili District, lauded Madam Jabati’s professional background, particularly her extensive experience at the Bank of Sierra Leone. He expressed confidence that she would serve in the best interest of the state. Hon. Koroma urged the new Deputy Minister to carry out her duties with integrity and fairness, particularly in the equitable distribution of resources across ministries, departments, and agencies.

Hon. Umu Pyne of Moyamba District extended her congratulations to President Julius Maada Bio for appointing a competent woman to a high-level financial position. She emphasized the importance of supporting women in the business sector and encouraged Madam Jabati to consider policies and programs that uplift female entrepreneurs. “Let us focus on improving the situation of women in business,” she urged.

Rounding up the debate, the Opposition Leader, Hon. Abdul Kargbo, acknowledged Madam Jabati’s impressive educational background and vast professional experience. While offering the opposition’s support, he urged her to deliver results and ensure effective execution of her responsibilities. He also advised the new Deputy Minister to implement strategies that would boost national revenue generation. “I pray for your success and assure you of our support,” he concluded.

In his closing remarks, the Leader of Government Business, Hon. Mathew Sahr Nyuma, commended Madam Jabati as a well-qualified Sierra Leonean. He praised her previous service at the Bank of Sierra Leone and applauded President Bio’s continued commitment to gender inclusion in governance.

Prior to her parliamentary approval, Madam Jabati appeared before the Committee on Appointments and the Public Service, where she affirmed her readiness to contribute meaningfully to national development. “I bring administrative skills, teamwork, integrity, and commitment to support the government’s agenda. I will work diligently with my superiors to fulfill the responsibilities of the Ministry,” she stated.

Madam Jenneh Jabati has served over 35 years at the Bank of Sierra Leone, rising to the roles of Chief Operating Officer and Head of Human Resources. She holds a Master of Arts in Human Resource Management from Middlesex University, United Kingdom, and is a Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD).

Following her approval, the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Segepoh Solomon Thomas, congratulated Madam Jabati and wished her success in her new role.
