Profile of Newly Approved High CourtJudge Honourable Justice Mark Ngegba

Judiciary of Sierra Leone Communications, House of Parliament, Tower Hill in Freetown, 22nd May, 2025: Sierra Leone Parliament today approved His Worship Magistrate Mark Ngegba and other Justices of the superior Court of Judicature.
Magistrate Mark Ngegba is a seasoned legal professional currently serving as a Senior Magistrate in the Judiciary of the Republic of Sierra Leone. With a distinguished career rooted in public service, he brings over two decades of experience across the military, legal, and human rights sectors. A retired Captain of the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF), he has transitioned seamlessly from military leadership to judicial excellence.

His legal journey began in the Office of the Attorney General and Ministry of Justice, where he served as a prosecutor in the Directorate of Public Prosecutions and contributed to legislative work within the Parliamentary and Drafting Division. He further advanced his commitment to justice and accountability at the Human Rights Commission of Sierra Leone, where he held the roles of Senior Human Rights Officer and Acting Director of Complaints, Investigations, and Legal Services.

In 2017, Magistrate Ngegba was appointed to the bench, where he has since demonstrated judicial integrity, fairness, and a deep commitment to the rule of law. He was promoted to Senior Magistrate in 2021 and currently also serves as the Judge Advocate at the RSLAF Courts Martial, bringing his military legal experience to bear in overseeing military justice processes.

His academic credentials include a Bachelor of Laws with Honors (LLB Hons) from Fourah Bay College, University of Sierra Leone, and a Barrister-at-Law (BL) degree from the Sierra Leone Law School. He has pursued further professional education internationally, earning certifications in key areas such as anti-corruption law, conflict mediation, and military justice from institutions including the Defence Institute of International Legal Studies (USA), the Clingendael Institute (Netherlands), and the Judge Advocate General’s School (US Air Force).

Magistrate Ngegba has been an active participant in numerous international seminars and workshops focused on legal reform, human rights, maritime security, and gender-based violence. Notable engagements include the Commonwealth Magistrates’ and Judges’ Association Annual Conference in Kigali, Rwanda; seminars on maritime piracy and international humanitarian law; and executive legal trainings facilitated by the United States DIILS and ICRC.

Renowned for his professionalism, strong ethical standards, and broad expertise, Magistrate Ngegba continues to be an influential figure in Sierra Leone’s justice sector, upholding the principles of fairness, diligence, and public service.
