Revitalizing Trust: Key Insights From The NRA Mid-Term Board/Management Retreat

In a bid to bolster public confidence and enhance revenue generation, the Mid-Term Board/Management Retreat of the National Revenue Authority in Kenema City, Themed “Restoring Public Confidence to Enhance Revenue Generation,”. The retreat brought together NRA Board of Directors and Senior Management Team, to give half year updates on various departmental work plans and to discuss pressing challenges facing the authority and the strategic actions needed to address them.


The highlight of the event was the keynote address delivered by a renowned governance expert Dr. Emmanuel A.R. Gaima who is the Principal Executive Adviser to the President on Public Service and Head of Public Sector Reform Unit, who outlined the multifaceted challenges that the NRA currently faces. From issues of transparency and accountability to the need for improved taxpayer engagement and convenient means of payment of taxes. He further emphasized that restoring public trust is paramount for effective revenue generation.


The keynote speaker asserted that without trust, taxpayers cannot be expected to fulfill their obligations, nor can the authority implement effective policies that drive compliance and revenue growth.
Throughout the retreat, participants engaged in dynamic discussions that aimed at developing actionable strategies to tackle these challenges. Topics ranged from enhancing communication with the public to leveraging technology for better service delivery and transparency.


The session continued with a renewed commitment from the leadership of the NRA in which the Board Chairperson Mr. Kabineh M. Kallon called to prioritize public engagement and transparency in all operations. “We are dedicated to rebuilding the trust of our citizens,” stated the Board Chairperson. He added that the retreat will equip participants with the insights and strategies needed to move forward effectively.
In her remarks, the Commissioner General Mrs. Jeneba J. Bangura while giving updates on tax Administration Reforms over the years, reminded participants that the Authority is on this transformative journey, the hope is that the actions taken will not only enhance revenue generation but also foster a more trusting relationship with the public, ultimately leading to a more prosperous future for the country.
