In a passionate and wide-ranging address, Robert Kondama Kargbo, a veteran media executive and political figure, officially declared his candidacy for the position of Deputy National Chairman of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP).
His remarks, delivered in front of executive members, media representatives, and party loyalists, called for a renewed spirit of unity, responsible leadership, and strategic planning ahead of the 2028 general elections.
Kargbo’s declaration came during a politically charged meeting attended by Councilor Gbla and other stakeholders from the Western Region. The Chairman’s opening remarks set the tone by reflecting on past political missteps and urging delegates to prioritize long-term service and sacrifice over short-term financial gains.

“We must not make the wrong choice again,” the Chairman said. “Money is important, yes, but putting someone in power who only gives money today and fails to lead tomorrow is a mistake we cannot afford.”
Amid growing internal divisions and what he described as “a critical phase” within the SLPP, Kargbo pledged to offer inclusive leadership that serves all members of the party, regardless of regional or ethnic background.
“This afternoon, I take a bold step in my political career,” said Kargbo. “My goal is to unite the party and ensure every member feels a sense of belonging and relevance. I stand not only as a candidate but as a servant of the people.”
He highlighted his extensive background in public service, journalism, and entrepreneurship, noting his tenure as Publisher and Editor-in-Chief of Heritage Newspaper and CEO of the Medical Group of Companies. These roles, he said, have given him the leadership experience, organizational insight, and dedication necessary to help move the party forward.
Kargbo outlined a vision of modern governance, which includes promoting digital innovation, job creation, gender justice, and equitable development. He emphasized that under his leadership, the party would focus on policy driven solutions, grassroots empowerment, and constructive political engagement.
“Our party needs fresh energy rooted in humility, inclusiveness, and an unshakable commitment to progress,” he said. “It’s time we shift from internal conflicts and realign our focus on national development.”
In a moment of reflection, he acknowledged the sacrifices of those who have served the SLPP faithfully over the years, calling for continued unity and solidarity. He urged delegates to support his candidacy not just for personal ambition but as an investment in the future of the party and the nation.
The event closed with resounding applause and a call to action, as Kargbo vowed to continue reaching out to party members and stakeholders nationwide in preparation for the upcoming party convention.
“We are not politicians for show. We are here to serve. And I am ready to sacrifice,” he concluded.
As the SLPP prepares for its next internal elections, all eyes will be on candidates like Robert Kondama Kargbo, whose message of renewal and unity may well resonate with a party at a crossroads.
