Security Forces Seize Large Consignment of Explosive Devices at Gbalamuya Checkpoint

In a major security operation, a large consignment of explosive devices was intercepted by security forces stationed at the Gbalamuya Checkpoint, in collaboration with the National Revenue Authority’s (NRA) Anti-Smuggling Unit.
The explosives were handed over to Lieutenant-Colonel John Kainessie, Commanding Officer of the 11th Infantry Battalion in Kambia, for secure storage. The handover took place at the Old Customs Building in Gbalamuya, witnessed by key security personnel, including Superintendent Murana Kamara, the Local Unit Commander of the police, and Joshua Bockarie, Kambia District Coordinator of the Office of National Security (ONS).
The devices are now under protective custody at the 11th Battalion Headquarters. Meanwhile, the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) has launched an investigation into the matter.
This seizure marks a significant step in the fight against illegal activities at the Gbalamuya border, highlighting the collaborative efforts of the NRA Anti-Smuggling Unit, the police, and the ONS.
Gbalamuya Checkpoint, a major crossing between Sierra Leone and Guinea, sees heavy daily traffic as goods and people pass between the two nations.
Local residents are urging authorities to strengthen security measures at the border to prevent future threats.
