As Sierra Leone moves closer to finalizing and implementing its National Data Strategy, the Ministry of Communication, Technology and Innovation convened a two-day engagement at the Radisson Blu Hotel.

Day One brought senior leaders from key ministries, departments, and agencies together for a high-level training on data governance, covering principles, frameworks, and operational dimensions, and building a shared vocabulary to guide national implementation. Day Two was dedicated to the technical validation of the draft strategy, ensuring it reflects Sierra Leone’s priorities, strengthens service delivery, promotes transparency, and aligns with African Union and ECOWAS digital transformation goals.

The strategy is built on the Digital Development Policy (2023–2029) and will work alongside the upcoming Digital Government Bill.
Three Clear Commitments:

- Treat data as a public asset to enhance services and strengthen transparency
- Put equity, inclusion, and citizen empowerment at the centre of all data policies
- Align our national vision with African Union & ECOWAS digital transformation goals
With this milestone, Sierra Leone becomes the second country in West Africa, after The Gambia, to move from digital frameworks to decisive national action. This achievement is part of the Data Governance in Africa Initiative #D4DataGOV under the Digital for Development (D4D) Hub, implemented by GIZ African Union with the African Union, AUDA-NEPAD, and the Digital Impact Alliance, and co-funded by the European Union and BMZ.
