Sierra Leone’s Foreign Minister Discusses Partnership Opportunities with Saudi Fund for Development

Riyadh, Tuesday, 19th August, 2025*- The Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Republic of Sierra Leone, Alhaji Musa Timothy Kabba, today paid a working visit to the Saudi Fund for Development (SFD) headquarters.

As a special envoy of His Excellency President Dr Julius Maada Bio, Minister Kabba’s visit aimed at gaining first-hand information about SFD’s operational projects in Sierra Leone.

Briefing the SFD’s Chief Executive Director, Dr Sultan Al-Marshad, the Minister highlighted the ongoing projects, including the $50 million construction of the 150-bed Riyadh Referral Hospital.

In his response, Dr Al-Marshad expressed SFD’s commitment to executing these projects and urged Minister Kabba to expedite the submission of an administrative request for the implementation of the Riyadh Referral Hospital project at Kerry Town in the Western Rural of Sierra Leone. He also requested that the minister facilitates a visit by SFD to the Queen Elizabeth II Quay for a feasibility study; the outcomes will inform the initiation of port-based bankable projects in Sierra Leone.

Minister Kabba commended Dr Al-Marshad for SFD’s commitment to implementing signed projects and assured him that issues related to the Quay and the Ministry of Health would be addressed upon his return to Freetown. He also requested SFD’s support for upgrading and expanding the Princess Christian Maternity Hospital (PCMH) to address the current electricity challenges.

The Saudi Fund for Development is actively involved in financing various development projects in Sierra Leone, focusing on digitalization, virtual health energy, and healthcare.
