SLFA VP& Executive Member Witness Laying-Out Ceremony of Late John Kiester Snr. in Makeni

The Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) Vice President 1, Harold Nat-Johnson, together with the Chairman of the North-Eastern Regional Football Association and SLFA Executive Committee Member, Brima Jalloh, today attended the solemn laying-out ceremony of the late John Kiester Snr. at the Holy Trinity Church in Makeni City.

The late John Kiester Snr., a revered figure in Sierra Leonean football, was laid to rest amid tributes from family, friends, and members of the football fraternity. As the father of former Leone Stars Head Coach, John Kiester Jr., his legacy lives on through the continued contribution of his family to the national game.

Throughout his lifetime, Mr. Kiester Snr. made remarkable contributions to football in Sierra Leone — not only as a former national team player but also as a coach and administrator. He coached top-tier clubs such as East End Lions, Bai Bureh Warriors, Diamond Stars etc. and once served as the SLFA Vice President 1, where he played a pivotal role in shaping the sport’s governance.

Speaking to this medium, both Nat-Johnson and Jalloh described the late Kiester Snr. as a towering figure whose impact on Sierra Leonean football remains undeniable. They extended condolences to the Kiester family, particularly to Coach John Kiester Jr., and emphasized the importance of honoring pioneers who paved the way for the sport’s development.

“Mr. Kiester was not only a football man, he was a father, mentor, and trailblazer,” said VP Nat-Johnson. “His legacy continues to inspire us as we strive to build a stronger footballing nation.”

The ceremony drew several dignitaries, football stakeholders, and community members, all gathered to pay their last respects to a man whose name is etched in the annals of Sierra Leonean football history.
