The national leadership of the ruling Sierra Leone Peoples’ Party (SLPP) has announced the temporary suspension of several rerun elections scheduled in Western Area Rural and Urban, as well as in Bo, Kenema, and Tonkolili Districts, until further notice.
The suspension affects over 30 constituencies across the country. The decision was communicated through a press release issued by the party’s national secretariat following a significant number of complaints and petitions submitted by aggrieved aspirants and candidates participating in the party’s ongoing internal lower-level elections.
According to the press statement signed by the SLPP’s National Secretary-General, Umaru Napoleon Koroma, the rerun elections will resume only after the party leadership has conducted and concluded thorough investigations into the issues raised.
The statement further assured stakeholders that once the investigations are completed, the SLPP leadership will communicate a new schedule for the rerun elections to all relevant parties and stakeholders.
