The Executive Director of the Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority (SLRSA), Mr. James Baggie Bio, on Monday 28th July 2025, paid a courtesy visit to the Minister of Internal Affairs, AIG (Rtd.) Morie Lengor Esq., to discuss strategic collaboration to enhance the safety and security of citizens across the country.

During the meeting, Mr. Bio briefed the minister on the road safety and security challenges currently faced by the Authority. He highlighted key initiatives to prevent the registration and licensing of stolen vehicles within the SLRSA database, emphasising the importance of safeguarding national security through improved vehicle tracking and verification mechanisms.
Mr. Bio also pointed out operational challenges faced by Road Safety Corps personnel, particularly in situations where police assistance is essential for the effective execution of their duties. He appealed to the Hon. Minister to facilitate stronger institutional collaboration to ensure mutual respect and coordination within their respective mandates.

In response, Hon. Minister AIG (Rtd.) Morie Lengor Esq. warmly welcomed the Executive Director, describing the visit as timely and significant. He acknowledged the issues raised, noting that internal security remains a critical concern for both national and international partners. The Minister commended Mr. Bio for the proactive steps taken to block the registration of stolen vehicles, recognising the importance of such actions in strengthening national security frameworks.

AIG (Rtd.) Lengor Esq. pledged to initiate stakeholder meetings with relevant institutions in the transport and security sectors to foster collaborative efforts for the overall benefit of Sierra Leone. He also expressed concerns over the growing risks posed by container trucks, the general roadworthiness of vehicles, and the urgent need to improve road safety standards nationwide.
The Minister encouraged the SLRSA to embrace modern technology as part of its road safety strategy to ensure more efficient and effective management of road transport systems.
Both parties concluded the meeting with a mutual commitment to ongoing communication and collaboration to uphold safety, order, and compliance on the nation’s roads.
