In the first quarter of 2025, the Sierra Leone Roads Safety Authority (SLRSA) saw a revenue boost from increased pricing of certain services and enhanced compliance measures. Specifically, a price increase for Motor Cross (MC) plates resulted in a revenue gain exceeding NLe 800,000. Additionally, the National Revenue Authority (NRA) temporarily sealed off EDSA and SLRSA due to compliance issues, highlighting efforts to improve revenue collection.
According to the Executive Director of SLRSA, James Baggie Bio, the latest revenue figures are breakdown as follows, SLRSA increased the price of Motor Car plates, which directly contributed to increased revenue. To ensure compliance, the NRA’s enforcement drive, aimed to improve transparency and accountability in revenue management.
Also, the NRA has been implementing digital initiatives, including online payment systems, to enhance efficiency and transparency in revenue collection.
The NRA and SLRSA are working together to streamline tax and non-tax revenue collection, particularly for Okada and Kekeh, through the NRA Payment Application. While there have been reports of revenue shortfalls in other areas, such as a 25% shortfall in January 2025, the SLRSA has seen positive impacts from specific measures
