The Sierra Leone Teaching Service Commission (SLTSC) has completed the registration and verification of teachers countrywide.
This primary objective of this particular exercise is to clearly establish a comprehensive database of all teachers in the country as it will help facilitate better workforce planning, deployment, and succession management as well as provision of teacher data for consumption by private teacher-employers.
The nationwide teacher registration and verification will mainly guide the SLTSC’S efforts towards equitable distribution of qualified teachers across all regions, particularly in underserved and remote areas to contribute and improve learning outcomes.
Meanwhile, teachers and non-teachers who applied online were carefully selected and trained by the various Teaching Service Commission offices across the country. Those recruited were referred to as Focal Persons, and were issued letters to show as proof to carry out the registration and verification exercise of schools assigned to each Focal Person. The letter bears the names and National Identification Number of those Focal Persons recruited.
Additionally, the registration and verification of teachers was compulsory for all teachers thus:
- Payroll Teachers.
- Non-Payroll Teachers.
- Community Teachers.
- Volunteer Teachers.
- Trained and Qualified Teachers.
- Untrained and Unqualified Teachers.
Important to note that all teachers in Nursery, Primary, Secondary, and Tech-Voc schools who presented themselves for the said exercise were captured into the database of the SLTSC.
Ideally, the said process took place from Wednesday 19th March to Saturday 5th April, 2025.
However, an extension of the same exercise was done on Monday 7th April, 2025 so as to meet the expected threshold of the commission.
As it stands, the commission is working vigorously and rigorously to pay all Focal Persons who have already done the following:
- Registration and verification of teachers as assigned.
- Submission of reports.
- Re-signed and witnessed of all contracts.
- Signing of registration attendance register.
However, the commission has also extended the registration and verification of those teachers who are yet to be captured by the commission to visit their respective TSC district offices to ensure they are captured for their own good.
The closing date for all teachers to be registered and verified by the commission is Thursday 17th April, 2025.
