VP Juldeh Jalloh Opens West Africa Tax Dialogue

Vice President Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh, on Tuesday, September 16th, opened the West Africa Tax Administration Forum Dialogue at the Foreign Service Academy at Tower Hill in Freetown. The Vice President, in delivering the keynote, dilated on the importance of taxation in the development of low income countries, stressing the importance of expansion of the private sector space for businesses to flourish and thrive, so that governments can acrue more taxes.
Dr. Juldeh Jalloh reinforced the need for a digitalised tax system as espoused by previous speakers while emphasising the political will for the attainment of goals. The Vice President touched on the twin crises of Covid-19 and the Russia/Ukraine war and the impact on revenue generation by low income countries, including Sierra Leone.
Before declaring the meeting open, Dr. Juldeh Jalloh assured the august gathering of the government of President Bio’s willingness to support the work of the forum for the enhancement of tax networks and reforms in tax administration.
Earlier, the Commissioner Generals of Gambia and Liberia, the AU representative, and Sierra Leone’s Minister of Finance made goodwill statements.
Commissioner General of the National Revenue Authority Mrs. Jeneba J. Bangura is the host of the event, which ends on Friday, September 19.
