The Director General of the Sierra Leone Ports and Harbours Authority (SLPHA), Yankuba Bio has marked a highly productive month with three significant achievements in the nation’s port sector.
In a recent statement, Bio announced that he was honored with a National Hero Award; an accolade he described as a humbling recognition of the efforts to transform Sierra Leone’s port infrastructure and operations.
Among the other notable accomplishments are the payment of dividends to the Government from Freetown Terminal Limited (FTL), where the state holds shares. This, he noted, reflects a strong commitment to transparency and accountability in public-private partnerships.
Additionally, SLPHA successfully oversaw the inauguration of a new port facility in Maforki Chiefdom. Developed by CTC Port and Logistics, the port meets both national and international compliance standards, a testament to the regulatory oversight maintained by the SLPHA.
“Achieving three major milestones in just one month highlights the positive trajectory of our port sector,” Bio stated. “We are focused on delivering sustainable growth and ensuring Sierra Leone’s maritime industry plays a key role in national development.”
These developments are seen as part of the broader efforts by the SLPHA to modernize the country’s maritime infrastructure and reinforce its role as a gateway for trade and investment in West Africa.
