Hon. Sidie Mohamed Tunis Receive Lifetime Achievement Award

The 50 Most Influential Sierra Leonean Women Awards Committee has presented a Lifetime Achievement Award for Peace and Democracy to Rtd Hon, Dr. Sidie Mohamed Tunis, in recognition of his unwavering contributions to peace, democratic governance, and gender empowerment across the region.
The presentation ceremony, which took place at Hon. Tunis’s Parliament office, was a moment of reflection and appreciation for his years of dedicated service. Although Hon. Tunis was unable to attend the official award event on the 18th July 2025, Under the distinguished Grand Chief Patronage of Her Excellency, Fatoumata Tambajang, Former Vice President of Gambia and Her Excellency, Fatima Maada Bio, First Lady of the Republic of Sierra Leone due to being out of the country, he graciously received the honor in person during the private presentation by the organizing committee.
In his remarks, Hon. Tunis expressed profound gratitude to the organizers for the recognition and apologized for his absence at the main event. He highlighted his tenure as Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament, during which he worked relentlessly to advance peace and democratic values not only in Sierra Leone but across the West African sub-region.


“Throughout my service at the ECOWAS Parliament, I remained steadfast in promoting peace, democratic processes, and unity across member states,” Hon. Tunis said. “Peace is the foundation upon which nations thrive, and I remain deeply committed to fostering national cohesion here in Sierra Leone.”
In addition to the Lifetime Achievement Award, Hon. Tunis was also recognized as a HeForShe Champion—a title awarded to male allies who advocate for gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls.
He thanked the Awards Committee for this distinction and reaffirmed his support for women’s leadership, inclusion, and rights.
“Empowering women and girls is not just a social imperative—it is essential for national development,” he noted. “I am honored to be recognized as a HeForShe Champion and will continue to stand firmly for gender equity and the empowerment of women in all spheres of life.”
The 50 Most Influential Sierra Leonean Women Awards is a flagship recognition platform celebrating outstanding individuals and advocates who have significantly contributed to national development and gender equality. Hon. Tunis’s dual recognition highlights the interconnectedness of peace, democracy, and inclusive governance.
The Awards Committee commended his leadership, integrity, and enduring commitment to building a just and equitable society.
