We Are Going To Court, If…-Chief Sam Sumana Threatens

The Chief of Staff for what is dubbed the – SAM 28 Movement, Bassie Michael Turay, has disclosed that the former Vice President, Alhaji Chief Abu Bakarr Samsumana has threatened to take legal action against the national executive of the opposition All Peoples Congress (APC), if he is not allowed to contest for the 2028 Presidential Flagbearer position of the party in their forthcoming 2026 National Delegates’ Conference (NDC).
This development comes following the individual objection to some of the new rules and regulations for the APC upcoming internal lower-level elections across the country and its NDC.
Speaking to the local media lately, Bassie Michael Turay stated that they are petitioning the five-year eligibility clause, adding that it was in the constitution when the former Vice President, Chief Sam Sumana was re-admitted in 2020.
He also added that if the constitutional matter in the party is not resolved amicably at the Political Parties Regulation Commission (PPRC), they will head for the court to seek proper interpretations of the new APC 2022 constitution regarding the eligibility to contest for leadership position, especially that of the Presidential Flagbearer.
According to him, after the 14 days deadline that the PPRC issued to the APC ends they will evaluate and review whatever responses received from the party, noting that if they are satisfied with the party’s response, they will stop pursuing the matter but that if they are not satisfied, they will head to court.
He further noted that Chief Sam Sumana has exhausted all internal remedies and now focuses on using external remedies to amicably settle the issue with the APC, noting that if all of these fail, the High Court will properly explain the constitutional provisions.
