Revenue Authority Embarks on Street Sensitization Campaign on GST Compliance

Freetown, Sierra Leone – May 29, 2025

The National Revenue Authority (NRA) has intensified efforts to promote compliance with the Goods and Services Tax (GST) Act by conducting a street sensitization campaign across major commercial areas in Freetown. The campaign, which focused on the use of Electronic Cash Registers (ECRs), targeted businesses, traders, and members of the public with the aim of increasing awareness and fostering a culture of voluntary tax compliance.

Led by officials from the NRA’s Domestic Tax Department and supported by officers from the Legal and Corporate Services Department and Public Affairs and Tax Education Unit, the sensitization drive took place in busy trade hubs such as PZ, Abacha Street, Wilberforce street etc. Staff engaged directly with shop owners, petty traders, and customers to educate them on the importance of the ECRs in ensuring transparency, improving tax collection, and strengthening national revenue mobilization.
